Achoimre: | Art in public space shows the complex relationshipbetween different profiles of artists, and between artistsand passer-by spectators, in terms of appropriation andsymbolization of cities, traversing issues such as identity, memory, and meanings through aesthetic representation. The purpose of this paper is to distinguish the different logics, discourses, and intentions behind artistic interventions inthe public space. To do this, it covers artistic actions, bothcontemporary art and street art, and also artivism, in the bordercity of Tijuana, Mexico, and analyzes the disputes over theoccupation of urban space through art, as well as the positionsin the face of social asymmetries of the city as a border city withthe United States. This journey is carried out historiographicallythrough the selection of images that account for the variousartistic manifestations analyzed. In addition to this, this workaims to provide a record as an archive, by selecting photographsof artistic pieces that have disappeared due to their public-urbannature.
