Description
Summary:The growth of the city, the impermeabilization of soils, and the time of concentration of rainfall cause an increase in urban flooding, which has become a problem. Sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) are shown as a solution capable of improving the critical aspects related to runoff, and in turn improve the sustainability and resilience of the city. This paper analyzes the floods that took place in the period 2014-2021 at San Luis Potosí, Mexico, through the development of a database that includes the spatio-temporal distribution, the seasonality of floods caused by rainfall, as well as an account of the measures that were implemented for the mitigation of this phenomenon. Secondly, a review of the current rainwater management policies is carried out to finally give recommendations for the implementation of SUDS. The findings indicate the existence of more frequent and more intense flooding in the urban area, in addition to the lack of current policies for the management of rainwater with sustainable solutions. Interdisciplinary studies are needed for the implementation of sustainable strategies and interventions adapted to the local socioeconomic situation and cultural environment.
