Description
Summary:This article presents the social and demographic panorama of the Government of Yucatan during the colonial era. The objective of the work is to have a much clearer picture of the social, cultural and political component in the conquered territory, as well as its changes and continuities during the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The methodology used is qualitative and is based on the method of long historical duration in which it draws a line in time that covers the colonial era. The hypothesis is that colonial Yucatecan society was heterogeneous and was based on different legal statutes. The results of the work show us that the population in Yucatán suffered great changes due to situations such as the conquest, wars, epidemics and calamities; achieving a slow recovery for the eighteenth century.
