| 要約: | This study estimates the determinants of sulfur dioxide (SO2 ) emission levels using structural models with the state-level panel data of Mexico. The model is estimated for SO2 emission levels from different pollution sources, specifically, large industry sources, small businesses and automobile sources. The socioeconomic factors considered in the structural models are the composition of the economy, the quality of institutions, income inequality, trade openness, geographical heterogeneity, time trend, and income per capita. We find that socioeconomic factors have distinct impacts on SO2 emissions from different sources. We find evidence in favor of the pollution haven hypothesis. We also find a negative impact of income inequality over automobile-oriented pollutions and persistent inverse U-relationship between income and SO2 emission levels even after controlling other important socioeconomic factors. |
