As is shown, the elaboration of the dictionary, dedicated to an ethnic group of Northern New Spain, has to be seen in the context of broader cientific colaboration common within linguistic studies of the epoque. This colaborative approach made possible the recollection, critique and publication of linguistic information which would, especially in the German speaking countries, lead to the emergence of typological studies.
