Summary:This paper presents a qualitative systematic literature review of continuous improvement applied research in ibero-american Micro, Small and Medium Organizations (MSMEs) seeking to answer the following questions: what are therir characteristics (objective investigated, type and method of research and population)? and what are the findings?. The results analyze fourteen investigations with three main themes of continuous improvement: sustainability, productivity and implementation. 43% are qualitative research usign case studies and interviews methods and 43% are quantitative research using surveys and questionnaires. The population most studied are companies with 42.8% and the country with most studies is Spain with 35.7% of the investigations. Findings include identifying barriers and facilitators to sustainability standards, tools and techniques to implementation, some related to productivity and abandonment issues in implementation.
